effects...In a perfect world, visual effects would be unnecessary. Every frame would be achieved on location. The weather would read the script and provide a corresponding performance on cue and dangerous action could be executed with no risk to life or limb. We do not live in a perfect world. But…we do have the power to create one. Enter the Visual Effects Artist. While impossible to attain perfect shots amidst the cold, unpredictable rigors of location production, the digital artist can take that raw footage and sculpt from the complex illusion of reality. Digital effects are an integral aspect of the planning, production and postproduction stages of Denali. Amazingly, it does not take a room full of computers and frenzied ILMers to create magic. We can and will travel to a 20,320-foot summit at the keyboard of a single consumer workstation. A low budget indie film can now match the scale of a summer blockbuster. The recent proliferation of low cost visual effects software has made it possible to realize expansive, deadly environments, dangerous and physically impossible stunts, raging blizzards and a 20,320 foot summit victory.
